Wtach the video through and pay careful attention to the instructions for best results. Breathe slow and dep while you are doing this pose. Feel the breathe going all the way down into your pelvis. Let the breathe actually expand the lower abdomen and low back area.

You may only want to do this for a few seconds in the beginning. then work up to a little longer time. This is one you can do several times a day. whenever you walk past the kitchen sink, or when your back is feeling tight and it needs a good stretch. I like these little exercises than can be done without any special equipment and anytime the spirit moves.

Breathe Deep and Feel the Release

In just about any yoga pose or stretch, be sure to breathe slow and deep. Actually feel the breathe going down into the painful area. This helps to calm and relax the nervous system. This goes a long way towards reducing stress, muscle tension and pain.

Do you try to do exercises and stretches, but the pain makes it difficult? Consider a portable Interferential/TENS unit. You can try one out for free, courtesy of Medfaxx Inc. It may help you to do exercises and stretches without so much discomfort.

How do you tell the difference?
The symptoms are very similar, pain down the leg.

The cause or root problem can be different however.

Dr George Best shares 2 simple tests, to help tell the difference.

Sciatica Exercises Part 2 – Revenge Of The Piriformis

Sciatica Test

True Sciatica is caused by a disc problem in the spine. Generally you have a bulging disc problem, that is affecting the nerve.
Dr George’s test is to start by sitting in a chair. Bend at the knee, straightening the leg out in front of you. If this increases the pain in the low back, hip area, or causes pain to shoot down the leg, it generally indicates a disc problem. Stretching may not always be the best thing for disc related sciatica.

Piriformis Test

Often what is called sciatica, is really piriformis syndrome. The sciatica nerve runs past, or even through the piriformis muscle in some people. If this muscle gets tight, it can cause pain in the siciatic nerve, in the hip and all down the leg. Stretching can help loosen the the pirifomis, improving the pain situation. Frequent short stretches, throughout the day, are generally better than one long stretching session.

Both Disc and Piriformis

Some people can suffer from both disc related issues and piriformis at the same time.

Easing the Pain with Electrotherapy

Regardless of the cause, electrotheraphy can often be an angel of relief for many people. Interferential or TENS treatment can provide welcome pain relief, while other therapies are undertaken to promote healing of the root problem. To find out if electrotherapy is right for you, click here.

Yoga Stretches for a Stiff Neck – Video

My own neck has been sore lately, so I checked out Youtube for some videos that might be helpful.

This video gives some great simple stretches for the neck. I’ve done this little routine for a couple days now and it’s making a difference.

As always, I would highly recommend checking with your doctor before trying any of these exercises. That’s my disclaimer.

Just a couple minutes of this stretching can definitely loosen up some tight neck muscles.

The very first movement is great for the shoulders. Shoulder stiffness is often tied into neck pain.

The next movement is just moving the head from left to right while focusing on the breathing.

Never move past the point of pain, the idea is to relax and loosen, not create more pain.

Infrex Plus - Pain Relief Machine

I was talking to my friend just the other day and he recommended I try some neck stretches.

Here is what he said:

“If it’s hard for you to do the stretches, try hooking up an Interferential unit, with the electrodes on your neck. The interferential treatment will help to loosen up the muscles and make it easier to stretch, with less discomfort.”

So I tried it out and guess what, it works great. If you want to try this for yourself, you’ll need a doctor’s prescription. The good folks at Medfaxx can help you with that. They will even give you a free trial of the unit. Definitely worth a try, if you are suffering with pain of any type. To get started on your free trial, just fill out the from on the right hand side of this site.
