Here is a great video demonstration of where the sciatic nerve is located and where problems can occur.

Some people often mistake other problems for sciatica. Of course the real first step to solving any problem, is to determine the true cause.

Anyone who suffers from sciatica, or thinks they have sciatica, would benefit from this video.

Many Areas for Sciatic Nerve Problems

There are many points along the leg where entrapment can occur. All along the hamstring and in the calf, all the way down to the heal. The piriformis muscle, in the hip buttocks region, can tighten up, causing sciatic issues.

In the Spine

Problems can also occur in the spine. The nerve root of the sciatic nerve can be compromised. Disc bulge, disc herniation are some of the more common problems of the spine.

Sciatica – Surgery Free Cure Part 2

Avoiding Back Surgery

Before opting for back surgery, it’s a good idea to do a little more research on your own to see if a better option may exist. Once you have surgery, there is no going back. Your body is changed forever.

Active Release Technique

A.R.T., short for active release technique is one way to release entrapment sites. This requries a visit to an active release technique provider.

Toned Core Muscles = A Happy Spine

Keeping your core toned up can go a long way towards preventing back issues. When the abdominals are weak, it’s easier to strain the lower back.
It’s a good idea to check with your doctor before trying any new exercise, especially if you already have back pain.

Your Spine Health Recovery Program

Toning up the core muscles, like the abdominals and obliques can be an important part of a back pain recovery program. If you are seeing a chiropractor often he/she can give you good advice about what types of exercises would be best for your situation. Everyone is different.

Video Shows the Correct Movement

This video show the correct way to do crunches on a Swiss ball. It’s amazing how many people I see doing crunches incorrectly. They end up with little or no results. Doing the crunches properly Can make a big difference in the results.

Using the Swiss ball gives you a greater range of motion, than a floor exercise alone. A few modifications can increase the intensity of the exercise for more advanced exercisers.

I have one of these Swiss balls at my house and I absolutely love it. There is a whole range of exercises that can be done on it. Even a person that is not – “super fit” to begin with can get a good workout with one of these balls.

Check out instruction videos for proper exercise technique.

Yoga Stretches for a Stiff Neck – Video

My own neck has been sore lately, so I checked out Youtube for some videos that might be helpful.

This video gives some great simple stretches for the neck. I’ve done this little routine for a couple days now and it’s making a difference.

As always, I would highly recommend checking with your doctor before trying any of these exercises. That’s my disclaimer.

Just a couple minutes of this stretching can definitely loosen up some tight neck muscles.

The very first movement is great for the shoulders. Shoulder stiffness is often tied into neck pain.

The next movement is just moving the head from left to right while focusing on the breathing.

Never move past the point of pain, the idea is to relax and loosen, not create more pain.

Infrex Plus - Pain Relief Machine

I was talking to my friend just the other day and he recommended I try some neck stretches.

Here is what he said:

“If it’s hard for you to do the stretches, try hooking up an Interferential unit, with the electrodes on your neck. The interferential treatment will help to loosen up the muscles and make it easier to stretch, with less discomfort.”

So I tried it out and guess what, it works great. If you want to try this for yourself, you’ll need a doctor’s prescription. The good folks at Medfaxx can help you with that. They will even give you a free trial of the unit. Definitely worth a try, if you are suffering with pain of any type. To get started on your free trial, just fill out the from on the right hand side of this site.
