This movement is based on Qigong

Qigong is a Chinese meditative practice which uses slow graceful movements to promote the circulation of qi or energy within the body. It helps to enhance a person’s overall health.

The movements are designed to loosen up tight and stiff back muscles. Often it is lack of movements that leads to a chronicly stiff and sore back.

As you do the exercise, move in a slow, easy way. Breathe deeply to promote relaxation. Don’t let your ego get into it, just bend as far as is comfortable. Don’t overdo it.

You can order the complete DVD at www.BacknMotion.net

Firm Believer in this Exercise

I have tried this myself and it works great to get things loosened up. I first learned this movement in yoga class. When I saw this video, I knew right away, it was going on the website to share with people.

Enjoy the Relief

So enjoy the exercise video, and as with any exercise, if it hurts stop or back off. This movement should not be painful. It should actually help reduce pain. It really works into the piriformis muscle. A key instigator in sciatica discomfort.

Easy Warm Up

If you like easy, gentle types of yoga you will like this video. The leg lifts might be a little challenging, but the are super good for the abdominals. Nothing like keeping the tummy toned to protect the back. A lot of back problems are aggravated by poor abdominal tone.

Benefits of Lite Movement

Now, movement can do a great job of loosening up tight muscles, improving circulation, bringing in fresh blood, strengthening weak muscles. For example, the stomach, the core, is very important for preventing back pain, because if the stomach muscles aren’t doing their job then it can be kind of hard on the back.

Also, working to improve your posture, getting good posture can do a lot towards alleviating certain types of pain and, as well, movement can help to reduce stress which is always very beneficial.

So we’re talking about things like yoga, Tai Chi, Chi Gong, these types of things that involve slow, gentle movements and also a meditative state. Now, what I like to do is go out and try to find a good class with a qualified teacher.

In Search of a Qualified Teacher

Now, what do I mean by qualified teacher? Usually when I go to Yoga class the very first thing the teacher does is go around the class and ask the students, “Who’s got pain? Who’s got some kind of a physical problem that I need to know about?” so that that teacher can then modify your particular situation so that you don’t experience worse pain and you can actually make improvements.

Now, the second thing that I look for in a Yoga class is one that links breath with movement. There’s a focus on breathing. It’s not just going through the motions, but it actually brings you into a meditative state and it works on that mind-body connection.

I like to look for a class where I resonate well with the teacher, because it’s also about the social interaction as well, not just going through the motions. There’s a huge variety of different types of Yoga out there.

It’s worth looking around to see what you resonate with, what you like. You can always dial up the teacher on the phone before you go in and ask him some questions to kind of feel him out to see what the class might be like.

Easy Meditative Movement is the Key

So again, I also said things like Tai Chi, Chi Gong, these are also good. They involve gentle, slow, meditative movements. Now, I also have some Yoga videos and stretching videos on our website: so feel free to head on over to check those out and get a sampling of yoga and stretching.

Easing Muscle and Joint Pain

Sometimes if I’ve got some real stiffness, I’ll hook up my Infrex unit, which is Interferential, or sometimes I’ll use TENS mode. You may be familiar with the TENS unit. It’s got electrodes that you place on your body. Interferential is very similar, but it really has several distinct advantages over TENS.

It has something called carryover pain relief, and what I’ll do is I’ll put the electrodes on, and then I’ve got a fanny pack where I can strap the portable unit around my waist, and that still allows me to do a lot of different types of movements.

You can get a FREE trial of an interferential unit to try at home. A doctor’s prescription is all that’s needed. The fine folks at Medfaxx will ship one right to you, no cost for 30 days. If it doesn’t work for you, just send it back. Fill out the form on the right hand side of this site to get started.

Dr Shawn Robek, is a chiropractor, based in San Diego, CA

Since I got in a motorcycle accident a few weeks back, I have some lower back pain to work with. I’ll try these exercises for myself and see what goes.

I learned a movement similar to the first one in yoga class long ago. It really does help to loosen up lower back muscles, when thye are tight.

The second exercise, is very similar to the bridge pose in yoga. Kicking out the leg, adds the lower back strengthening element.

He is right about people hunching over, forward dominate. The cobra pose provides an opposing move tho offset the tendencyies we get form sitting in front of a computer, or sitting wherever.

The American lifestyle, leads us into this front leaning habit.

Sometimes, it’s tough for a person to do any movement, when they are hurting. Using an electrotherapy device, may allow for movement, or at least less painful movement. A unit like the Infrex Plus, requires a doctor’s prescription. To get going with a freee trial of this unit, just fill out the form on the right hand side of this site.
