Benefits of Lite Movement
Now, movement can do a great job of loosening up tight muscles, improving circulation, bringing in fresh blood, strengthening weak muscles. For example, the stomach, the core, is very important for preventing back pain, because if the stomach muscles aren’t doing their job then it can be kind of hard on the back.
Also, working to improve your posture, getting good posture can do a lot towards alleviating certain types of pain and, as well, movement can help to reduce stress which is always very beneficial.
So we’re talking about things like yoga, Tai Chi, Chi Gong, these types of things that involve slow, gentle movements and also a meditative state. Now, what I like to do is go out and try to find a good class with a qualified teacher.
In Search of a Qualified Teacher
Now, what do I mean by qualified teacher? Usually when I go to Yoga class the very first thing the teacher does is go around the class and ask the students, “Who’s got pain? Who’s got some kind of a physical problem that I need to know about?” so that that teacher can then modify your particular situation so that you don’t experience worse pain and you can actually make improvements.
Now, the second thing that I look for in a Yoga class is one that links breath with movement. There’s a focus on breathing. It’s not just going through the motions, but it actually brings you into a meditative state and it works on that mind-body connection.
I like to look for a class where I resonate well with the teacher, because it’s also about the social interaction as well, not just going through the motions. There’s a huge variety of different types of Yoga out there.
It’s worth looking around to see what you resonate with, what you like. You can always dial up the teacher on the phone before you go in and ask him some questions to kind of feel him out to see what the class might be like.
Easy Meditative Movement is the Key
So again, I also said things like Tai Chi, Chi Gong, these are also good. They involve gentle, slow, meditative movements. Now, I also have some Yoga videos and stretching videos on our website: so feel free to head on over to check those out and get a sampling of yoga and stretching.
Easing Muscle and Joint Pain
Sometimes if I’ve got some real stiffness, I’ll hook up my Infrex unit, which is Interferential, or sometimes I’ll use TENS mode. You may be familiar with the TENS unit. It’s got electrodes that you place on your body. Interferential is very similar, but it really has several distinct advantages over TENS.
It has something called carryover pain relief, and what I’ll do is I’ll put the electrodes on, and then I’ve got a fanny pack where I can strap the portable unit around my waist, and that still allows me to do a lot of different types of movements.
You can get a FREE trial of an interferential unit to try at home. A doctor’s prescription is all that’s needed. The fine folks at Medfaxx will ship one right to you, no cost for 30 days. If it doesn’t work for you, just send it back. Fill out the form on the right hand side of this site to get started.
