Dear Mr.Bob Johnson,

I am a pain nurse from the Netherlands and i saw your video’s from MedFaxxinc. And the only thing I can say is that they are very helpful for me. This because I just started with TENS-treatment after I followed a course.
I show the patient the movies on the internet if they want to see or hear more about TENS, and the only thing I can say is that the patients are very glad to see your video’s on your webpage.

But I have also another question: do you have a book were you put all the treatments in and also the positions of the electrodes? If so, can you give me the title and the place where I can buy it?

With regards,

T. S.
The Netherlands

Hi T,

Thanks for the very nice comments. So kind of you.

The answer to your question is “No don’t have a book”, but let me expand on that.

There really is no such thing as a “correct” electrode placement guide. There is such a thing as an incorrect electrode placement guide such as:

1. Do not put electrodes on bony prominences ( logic- bone is not conductor of electricity, but resistor, so little gained if bone close to surface and little moist tissue between electrode and bone)

2. Do not use small electrodes for large pain areas ( current concentration hurts before relief gained)

3. Do not put tens machines electrodes on head ( refer to 1 above)

Here is what is logical though and this varies from Rx to Rx and patient to patient and time of day to time of day which is why can’t generalize:

1. For tens basically want flow of current through area pain being felt ( logic: pain moves and after treatment then another area may now hurt enough to warrant electrode change so change to target area ( use rifle scope analogy of zeroing in on pain with criss cross ( that’s your electrodes and the flow of current)

2. What type machine using? Tens, Hi volt, Russian, Interferential etc. as the current density of those machines changes electrode placement. ( For Russian/Katz at 2,500 pps you need electrodes placed longitudally (sp) to go with muscle endplates, not transversally)

3. Unlike acupuncture where one interferes with electrical flow using small pins in specific areas with an electode you are proactive and dispersing electricity over a general area, not a specific area so need for specificity not as great. Also acupuncture points, even though specific are specific to each person’s body vis a bis “cun” which is a standard measurement but standard only to the patient’s body, not anyone else.

Giving you some of a “non answer” but there are lots of charts, books etc. but they actually prevent you or your patients from learning what is really going on rather than asking for a “cook book” of pictures on electrode placement.

Hope this makes some sense and if not please let me know.

Thanks.

Bobj

nomadictostito has made a comment on Electrode Placement On Treating Chronic Knee Pain, Drug Free, with Infrex Tens Unit:

I had a tens unit sitting in my desk drawer for months, I had it prescribed for my hip, but it was unsuccessful. Over the last 4-5 months, my knee has developed a terrible and constant pain. i decided to throw the tens on to see if it would help. I’m still going to see a doctor but, I just wanted to thank you for the late night lesson, and instant pain relief without worrying about messing with more narcotics. Thank you, very much.

I first wanted to thank Bob & the folks at MedFaxx for all their help. Your company has worked with me every step of the way in getting the proper …

I first wanted to thank Bob & the folks at MedFaxx for all their help. Your company has worked with me every step of the way in getting the proper paper work done so my insurance will pay for the unit as well as the additional pads etc.

I was once issued a ‘tens’ unit from the another provider & they were no help at all. Their cables failed & no pads were available. I repaired their cables myself. I’m a old telephone lineman & a ham radio operator so the repair was easy for me. But most people are not able to do that & should not have to.

But with MedFaxx none of this is a problem. You folks really want to help the patient.

I have Severe arthritis in my neck, back, and hips from my work as a lineman. Presently doctors want to replace my hips & do several back /neck surgeries. In fact I was recently offered Morphine for pain! But using the Infrex I don’t see the need for that medication & the side affects.

I typically use it morning and evening while reading e-mail , watching TV etc. With the batteries I can carry it around the house. So it’s not a ‘time wasting” treatment at all.
I find relief very quickly. I some times use heat pack while resting & use the InFrex unit at the same time.

I have recently tried some of the pain gels you offer. The “Orthogel” works well for me. It applies easily & is not oily or “gooey”. I’ll definitely be using more of these as well.

The unit is not difficult to use. I did have to work with it a bit to find the best placement for the pads and the best shape of pad to use. My pain is quite wide spread & after a few attempts found the best place for the pads to get the widest pain relief. In one of the videos Bob mentioned placing the pads in such a way the an ‘imaginary line’ connecting them would form a “X”, like the cross hair of a rifle scope,,,, ‘Targeting the pain” . As a life long outdoors man & target shooter this made perfect sense to me. More importantly IT WORKS !

The pain relief also much longer lasting the old Tens unit I was using. In fact I have had to skip a treatment I usually take due to appointments. The long lasting affect of the Infrex unit allowed this to happen.

Anyone thinking about this unit should call right away . Don’t wait another minute. The Staff will walk you through the process. They should watch the videos & ‘play’ with the unit to find what is best for them. This might be a little frustrating for some people but I’d strongly encourage them to work with this tool. The pads & adjustment form a very versatile solution to set up for your personal needs.

Once you get past the “fiddle factor” you wont want to be without it.

Thank for all you help

It is working, it is amazing and I want to get one , I’ve worn it almost continuously all day today, in my car and everything. My wrist BURNS constantly and has burned constantly for 3 months. The surgery was last March and worked until about November then all the pain came back. Honestly it’s been so bad I’ve thought about quitting doing hair because it is almost unbearable. This is the only thing that has offered me any relief. Thank you again for letting me use this expensive piece of equipment. I really , really appreciate your help and generosity. I would just as soon get a Rx so you can get paid for it.

Thanks, Jill

P.S. Once I see the video on the water, I will try that too, but want to make sure I’m doing it right, a little nervous to put electricity with water until I see the video.

The Infrex Plus provides two options for pain relief and often patients need some guidance on which to choose. Of course the real answer is after using for short time the patient will know which helps most but this short 30+ second video gives you some insight into how and why to choose which.

As a side note please remember a very unique feature of the Infrex Plus is the ability to treat two separate distinct areas of pain at the same time when using the 4-Pole method. The big difference is the power/amplitude/intensity can be set individually for each area. Often the “radiating sciatica pain” is greater than the “chronic low back pain” so the treatment requires greater intensity in the sciatic pain area and with the Infrex Plus you can treat for pain that way. One area is stronger in amplitude than the other.
